Bonneville Speedweek record setters!
Dateline: Bonneville Salt Flats - September 4, 2008
South Bay Triumph set a new land speed record on a prototype Triumph Bonneville Fuel-Injected Turbo. Matt Capri, president of South Bay Triumph qualified on his maiden trip down the salt at a speed of 168.927, using very low boost. The record of 162.472 is a two way average in the flying mile for the 1000cc Fuel Class (no fairing used). Prior testing with more boost resulted in 232hp and 153lbs of torque. Additional runs will be made at El Mirage Dry Lakes this winter with speeds expected to exceed 200mph. Thanks to our entire staff and special thanks to Pirelli tires, Haltech Fuel Management Systems, Rich Kemph, South Bay Fabrication, Fred Hether, M/C Tire Works, Alan & Adam Cathcart, and Matt's wife, Linda Capri, who has always supported his record runs.

This record holding bike started as an '05 Bonneville wreck with a 790 engine. It has been modified extensivly with the swingarm from a Speedmaster, a turbocharger, custom made throttle bodies with 4 injectors, custom made plumbing and brackets, 17" alloy wheels, and custom metal work. The engine has been stroked to 988 cc and generates an astounding 232 hp at the rear wheel with only 14lbs of boost. |
